The United States is filled with patriotically named places. Some share names with prominent historical figures such as Madison, Wisconsin, while others are named for patriotic concepts or ideals such as Independence, Kansas. About 0.8% of incorporated places — cities, towns, villages, and boroughs — share at least part of their name with a Founding Father. Ben Franklin tops the list with 38 incorporated places. He's followed by George Washington with 33, Thomas Jefferson with 29, and James Madison with 28. George Washington is the only Founding Father after whom a state is named, and that state even has a small city named George. The population of George, Washington is approximately 809 according to 2020 Census data.
