You Chose "A" $1,000 – That's Incorrect!

The $100,000 bill was the highest denomination in U.S. currency.

The $100,000 Gold Certificate, Series 1934, featured a portrait of President Woodrow Wilson and was printed between December 1934 and January 1935. These notes were issued by the Treasurer of the United States to Federal Reserve Banks (FRB) only against an equal amount of gold bullion held by the Treasury. They were never circulated among the general public. In fact, it's illegal for private collectors to own a $100,000 bill.

The highest denomination ever issued for public circulation was the $10,000 bill, although $500, $1,000, and $5,000 bills also existed. All U.S. notes higher than $100 were discontinued in 1969.
