You Chose "A" Colonial Army – That's Incorrect!

The original name for the U.S. Army was the Continental Army.

Did you know the U.S. Army is older than the country it serves and protects? The Continental Army was formed on June 14, 1775. Its purpose was to unify the colonial military efforts against the British during the American Revolutionary War, and it was originally composed of soldiers from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. One day after the Continental Army was established, George Washington was appointed commander-in-chief.

After the war, the Continental Army was disbanded. The U.S. Army was established in 1784, though it directly evolved from the Continental Army.
