Customer Alert – Watch For "Your Bank Account Is Frozen" Scam

If you get a text or email claiming to be from your bank that includes the message "Your bank account is frozen," do not respond. It's a scam.
You may be told that your bank account is locked due to suspicious activity or an IRS request, and you need to act immediately. The message contains a link that leads to a fake login page designed to steal your credentials. If you click the link, you might be asked to enter your bank account number, password, Social Security number, or other personal information, which the scammers then use for fraudulent purposes. They could access your bank account and drain your funds.
How to avoid the scam:
- Don't click on suspicious links. Always be cautious of unsolicited emails or messages that ask you to click on a link to verify your account or unfreeze it.
- Verify with the bank directly. If you receive a message about your account being frozen, independently verify the information by logging into your bank's official website or calling their customer service number.
This type of suspicious activity should be reported to your bank and the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
