That's Incorrect!

You Chose "A" John Adams – That's Incorrect!

James Garfield wasn't one of the U.S. presidents who died on July 4th.

Interestingly, three U.S. presidents died on the patriotic holiday of July 4th. In a strange coincidence, two of those presidents were Founding Fathers who died hours apart in the same year.

John Adams served as President of the United States from 1797-1801. Adams died at his farm on July 4th, 1826, whispering his last words, "Thomas Jefferson survives." What he didn't know was that Jefferson died a few hours earlier.

Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence and the third president, served from 1801-1809. Jefferson died on July 4th, 1826, a few hours before his presidential predecessor, John Adams.

James Monroe was the fifth president and the last of the Founding Fathers to hold that role. Monroe died on July 4th, 1831.

James Garfield, the 20th president, was shot twice on July 2nd, 1881 by a mentally disturbed lawyer and writer. He suffered months of agony from an overwhelming infection known as sepsis, and finally died on September 19th, 1881. Given his suffering, Garfield may well have wished he could have died on July 4th like Jefferson, Monroe, and Garfield.
