That's Correct!

Only 20 horses run in the Kentucky Derby.

The Kentucky Derby is always held on the first Saturday of May at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, and it's frequently dubbed the greatest two minutes in sports. Each year, 20 horses have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to run in the Kentucky Derby, having earned their spot in a series of designated races at tracks across the country and around the world.

While you're probably aware of the Kentucky Derby attendees' love of big, fancy hats, you may not have known that in the entire history of the race, only three fillies (female thoroughbred horses) have won. Also interesting to note is that the event has never been cancelled, and only cash bets are accepted at Churchill Downs.
