That's Incorrect!

You Chose "A" Sphere – That's Incorrect!

The most common raindrop is shaped like a hamburger bun.

April showers bring May flowers. But how much do you know about raindrops?

You're probably used to seeing illustrations of raindrops that look like teardrops — a rounded base with a tapered point at the top. However, according to the United States Geological Survey, that shape is not accurate. In fact, the most common raindrop, which has a radius of 1 millimeter to 4.5 millimeters, is shaped more like a hamburger bun.

Smaller raindrops, with a radius less than 1 millimeter, are spherical in shape, and raindrops larger than a radius of about 4.5 millimeters look like a parachute with a tube of water around the base.
