Question: Sometimes my internet service randomly disconnects. What could cause this?
Answer: There are a variety of reasons why your internet service could go out without warning. Here are some of the most common ones:
Your modem isn't connecting with your internet provider.
Your internet may randomly disconnect because you have a modem that doesn't communicate properly with your internet service provider (ISP).
Your Wi-Fi router is out of date.
An old wireless router is a common culprit for connection issues. Having a router that uses Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6 protocols ensures you'll get optimum speeds and better performance when multiple people are on your Wi-Fi.
There's a virus or malware infection.
A virus or malware infection on your computer or other device can cause internet connectivity issues. If the infection is severe enough, the internet connection can become unstable or not work at all.
Your ISP is experiencing network issues.
Contact your ISP if the disconnection persists. Their technical support team can run system and line checks to determine if there are any issues between them and your home. They may also have other suggestions for fixing the connection.
