That's Wrong!

You Chose "A" Lisa Bonet and Jasmine Guy – That's Incorrect!

A Different World co-stars Lisa Bonet and Marisa Tomei were roommates on the show and in real life.

Art imitated life on the series A Different World. Co-stars Lisa Bonet and Marisa Tomei, who played Denise Huxtable and Maggie Lauten respectively, lived together both on the show and in real life.

A Different World was originally going to be about a white girl going to a predominantly and historically black college, starring Meg Ryan as Maggie, the central character. But when Meg Ryan dropped out to focus on her film career, producers decided to make it a spinoff to The Cosby Show and concentrate on the character of Denise (Lisa Bonet). Maggie (Marisa Tomei) became a sidekick to Denise.

During the first season, the storylines were mostly about the relationship between interracial roommates Denise Huxtable and Maggie Lauten. This premise was dropped for the second season, after both actresses left the show.

A Different World started in 1987, right after Diff'rent Strokes ended in 1986. So, there were two NBC hit sitcoms about young black people, both with the word "different" in the title, back to back from 1978 to 1993.
