At its height, Saved by the Bell had more teenage viewers on Saturday mornings than the #1 prime time series, The Cosby Show.

NBC's Saved by the Bell (1989-1992) featured the adventures of students at California's Bayside High School and quickly became a hit. After Saved by the Bell had been on TV for around four weeks, research conducted by NBC showed that 50% of teenage girls in the U.S. were watching it.

The show premiered in primetime on Sunday, August 20, 1989, but moved to its regular morning time slot the following Saturday.

Saved by the Bell had several ties to another high school show, Beverly Hills, 90210. Before the candidates for the role of Kelly Kapowski on Saved by the Bell were down to two (Tiffani Thiessen and Elizabeth Berkley), Jennie Garth was the third finalist. Garth would go on to star in Beverly Hills, 90210, along with Thiessen and Saved by the Bell guest star Tori Spelling.
