That's Right!

You Chose "B" the Fresh Prince – That's Incorrect!

Actor Alfonso Ribeiro invented the Carlton Dance on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air originally aired from 1990-1996. The TV series featured a streetwise, poor young man from Philadelphia (played by Will Smith) who is sent by his mother to live with his aunt, uncle, and cousins in their Bel-Air mansion.

NBC approached Will Smith about appearing on a sitcom. He agreed, and they created a sitcom that focused on him. The "Fresh Prince" in the title is a reference to Will Smith's rapper name in the 1980s.

Alfonso Ribeiro played the role of Carlton Banks, the preppy cousin, and invented the Carlton dance. When Ribeiro first read the script, it said only "Carlton Dances," with no specific directions. He later revealed that the Carlton dance was inspired by Eddie Murphy's impression of a white guy dancing and Courteney Cox's moves in Bruce Springsteen: Dancing in the Dark. Ribeiro was then, and still is, an accomplished dancer.
