Jordin Sparks is the youngest contestant to win American Idol.

Jordin Sparks competed in the sixth season of American Idol in 2007, and at age 17, became the youngest winner in the series' history.

Sparks auditioned twice for American Idol that year: the first time in Los Angeles, where she failed to make it past the first round, and again in Seattle, where she earned the right to appear in the Hollywood round.

American Idol has launched the careers of many music superstars including Kelly Clarkson, who won the first season in 2001, and Carrie Underwood, who rose to fame as the fourth winner in 2005.

For eight consecutive years from 2003 to 2011, American Idol ranked number one in US television ratings. Now in its 17th season on ABC, American Idol continues to showcase new talent and make dreams come true.
