TLC (The Learning Channel) was founded in 1972 and initially focused on educational and learning content. In the 1990s, as reality shows became popular, the network shifted gears and began offering "unscripted" entertainment programming around lifestyles, family life, and personal stories.
Pop-culture phenoms including Jon & Kate Plus 8, Toddlers & Tiaras, and Cake Boss are just a few of the shows that grew TLC into a recognizable global brand. Today the network is available in more than 87 million homes in the U.S. and 279 million homes around the world.
